Here in Montreal, it has rained, snowed, been over 0C and under -5C. I have been wanting to put it to the test and I was lucky enough to have pretty much every weather possible. This is truely the uberlayer everyone needs. "ĭenoting an outstanding or supreme example of a particular kind of person or thing." The medium fits nicely with plenty of room to layer beneath.įor those who do not know what "uber" means, here is a description. I can see this being a phenomenal 3-season jacket here in the upper-reaches of the midwest where the summers are short and hot and the winters are brisk. As long as I was remaining active, the uberlayer kept me a perfect temperature during the entire hike. I found myself far too hot, actually sweating, wearing both my ascendant jacket and my uberlayer so I shed the ascendant. The temperature was a cold 15 degrees f with 10-20mph winds as I kept a good pace trudging through snow up ridges and along rivers. I was wearing a t-shirt baselayer, an ascendant jacket, and my uberlayer over top. The real test came during a snowy 8 mile trek along the Canadian border. If it's very cold and windy I simply layer underneath it. The breathability and protection from the elements is perfect for northern Minnesota winters on Lake Superior. I knew I loved this jacket as soon I received it but it has since surpassed all expectations. The Uber packs away pretty well into it's stuff pocket, although it's not the most comfortable function of the piece I just feel like I'm going to tear the zipper when I'm stuffing it into itself. I wear this all year round, outside of Summer-not too hot, not too cold. At the higher end of this range, The Uber is all that is needed aside from a t-shirt, just vent as needed when moving around. (That gets you to 4 pieces to pack away (on top). If you're standing or sitting and get cold, throw on the final piece of an outer shell and you're good to go. At the lower end of this range, with a base layer, mid layer, and then The Uber, it works well if you're on the move if the wind is blowing hard, put the hood up and synch it down. The UBER performs well at temperatures from freezing through the 40's (F) when paired with other items. I chose this jacket to be part of a system, and this item helps to limit the number of pieces required to meet most my needs in the wilderness. The Uberlayer Hooded Jacked, or "The Uber," is a wonderful piece of kit. I am asking sincerely, because I plan to buy either the Proton LT or the Ascendant hoody soon, and I want to make sure I correctly understand the pros and cons of each.Shop Dansko Women Search Within Women Search Do you have experience with Alpha not being durable? I’ve not noticed my fleece layers losing loft. First, how do you think the OR Ascendant hooded jacket would compare in this review?Īnd, you state that PolarTec Alpha insulation is not durable? Can you please explain why? I thought that since Alpha is basically long-pile fleece, it would not break or lose loft like short-fiber, loose synthetic insulation fills having very small fiber diameters. So Max, I have two questions if you would be kind enough to reply. And according to Max’s review, the Uberlayer is the same warmth as the Proton LT and Nano Air. The Ascendant uses the same weight of PolarTec Alpha insulation as the reviewed Uberlayer, so I assume they would both be the same warmth. The OR Ascendant hoody weighs a claimed 13.0 oz, which is a whole 1.4 oz lighter than the top-recommended Arcteryx Proton LT.

Yeah, for same computer, rewire won't work i don't think. I also don't know of a daw on mac that can host vst/au plugins when in rewire slave mode. so at most, i might get one or two kontakt pads out of it. Unfortunately rewire can not use more than one core, propellerheads confirmed this, it was never designed to multi thread. I'd be interested in seeing if it's possible to do all on one computer too. #Free alternative for sound siphon proI'm able to accomplish what you're trying to do with another computer and interface by routing the audio back into Pro Tools via ADAT. Well this is really what Rewire is designed to do, but I don't know that it works with Kontakt. PS would really like to do this, so anyone who is using standalone VI's of any kind, please let me know how you get it into Pro tools. Is there a soundflower alternative, and a straightforward workflow to this? where i can still monitor through my interface, but the output of the stand alone synth to whatever inter app virtual audio cable and perhaps add the input of that virtual audio cable to a new aggregate IO that pro tools can use?ĭo aggregate audio devices have performance penalties?Ĭheers. It's trickier in PT, as PT only allows one interface, you can not change nterfaces between inputs and outputs. In the past, i would think soundflower could do it, but i downloaded the sierra one and i can't see any possible way to assign inputs and outputs to it. Problem is getting the sound into PT as audio. I am really able to make so much more out of the same cpu. But doing this, it allows me to add a bunch more kontakt instruments, and uses cpu space outside pro tools! I already have a maxed out PT project, or close to. I have been mucking around with kontakt stand alone.Īnd basically what happens is, if i assign midi tracks in pro tools to kontakt's virtual midi (i believe this is only on mac kontakt), and set kontakt at 32 samples.

Only somewhat younger than Kennedy-though certainly no newcomer to the Great White Way-is the 85-year-old Tom Stoppard, whose new 20th-century epic Leopoldstadt might be his final new offering in a Broadway career that stretches back to 1967's Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead. Two of the past Pulitzer winners are by African-American playwrights, and the other three have significant Black content. That's a solid safety net for quality-and it doesn't mean that Broadway is abandoning its commitment to promoting Black artists, either. The slate of plays, in particular, leans heavily toward the tried and true: Five of the 12 non-musicals this fall are past winners of the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. RECOMMENDED: A complete list of upcoming Broadway shows this fall Some of those productions turned out to be great, others did not, but none of them caught much fire with audiences. And Broadway's 2021 comeback fall season featured a significant number of question-mark shows: relatively unknown and untested works. Last year, for example, it was hard not to smell a turkey cooking in Diana's kitchen, even before the Netflix version of it dropped with a thud. That said, critics are-despite what anyone might tell you-human beings, and it's hard to completely avoid a sneaking suspicion one way or another. Low expectations can make a bad show seem better, and too-high ones can make even a good show feel like a disappointment, which isn't fair to anyone involved. When people find out I'm a theater critic, there is one question they ask more than any other: "What should I see?" As Broadway revs up for its fall season, that question is hard to answer this year-not because there's not enough to recommend, but because the next few months are so firmly packed with shows I'm truly excited to see.įor various reasons, I try not to form any judgments in advance about shows I'll be reviewing. GHOST MOVIE MOVIEThis movie literally showcases the whole cast, Patrick Swayze was great, Demi Moore was fascinating, Whoopi Goldberg was just plain awesome, if there is someone that can make you laugh your pants out, its Whoopi Goldberg, she had that comedic and dramatic power and she definitely pulled it off, and that gained her an Oscar. Nothing more, nothing less.Ī very heartwarming, charming and smart movie, with a flawless funny script, original and great special effects, and with powerful performances. Just what a pure Hollywood film needs to be. Not the most substantive film, but so what? It's funny, it's sad, it's romantic, it's thrilling. When he wants you to feel Molly's sadness, a major close up of her crying face and falling tears is in frame. When the scene is meant to make you laugh he doesn't get in the way of the joke - nothing else happens. He keeps it simple, he knows that when a scene is meant to make you swoon he puts it on overdrive (the use of "Unchained Melody" in the pottery scene is brilliant). Jerry Zucker assembles this film amazingly well. While Goldberg got the Academy Award and Moore became an A-lister, Swayze is the one that anchors the film. And Swayze proves to have just as much chemistry with Goldberg as he does with Moore. Speaking of Molly Jensen and her doomed lover Sam Wheat (the titular Ghost), they are played with uncomplicated effectiveness by star-on-the-rise Demi Moore and hot-after-"Dirty Dancing" Patrick Swayze. She carries the film's comedy squarely on her shoulder but doesn't venture into cartoonish territory allowing Oda Mae's journey to be just as important to the viewer as Sam and Molly's. "Ghost" takes advantage of Whoopi Goldberg at her best and she plays Oda Mae Brown with a gusto that makes her irresistible. You become invested in the central relationship. This allows the viewer to just engross themselves into the lives of the characters without having too much to figure out. The plot is very basic and doesn't try to fool you with too many twists and turns - keeping the twists to just one very effective one at the film's climax. "Ghost" is smart enough to work off a very uncomplicated script. And while many may scoff at the film as pure fluff, their scoffs unfairly overlook "Ghost"'s amazing balance of drama, comedy and action - a feat that is very hard to achieve in films. "Ghost" is one of those films that is filmmaking at its most effective: It is uncomplicated, entertaining and engrossing with surprisingly good performances. Jamaicans have been debating whether or not to make Jamaican patois an official language for some time. Hawaii declared its own version of pidgin English an official language in 2015 after a number of pidgin speakers were revealed in a the US Census Bureau survey (pdf) of the islands. The way lyrics come out in the chorus is rather appealing as well. Despite the depressing story this is another tune that grows on you over time due to its decent blend of instruments. TROUBLE IN THE MESSAGE CENTRE is pretty good as well, mainly because -well to me at least- the old-school techno sounding notes in the verses are reminiscent of a SEGA Mega Drive video game.ĬLOVER OVER DOVER is about suicidal man planning to jump off the cliffs of Dover, but wants to make sure he's wrapped up any loose ends in his life before doing so. Also we have LONDON LOVES, a rock tune where the drums and guitars work beautifully in tandem while talking about a rich man and his liking of speeding around London in a flashy motor car. The delicate mixture of rock and classical make it a good night time listen. TO THE END appears to be about being immature and drunk. The faint use of violins in the background adds to its liveliness and makes it worth several plays. Both songs are upbeat, bring back fond memories of the 90's, and are simply great.Īlso on the list of "must hear" songs we have TRACY JACKS, a lively piece of light rock about a middle aged guy going through a mid life crisis. The former is a disco-ish track about being on holiday, having fun and trying to get laid and while the latter is more spoken than sung it's a true blue cockney anthem that will make every Londoner stand up, salute and generally feel proud of where they come from. Two of the best tracks on the album are two classic pieces that have been played numerous times on the radio and on music channels, GIRLS AND BOYS and PARKLIFE. This will happen quite a few times, trust me. Soon you'll find yourself listening to the album "just one more time" just to find out if your ears will fall in love with any particular tune. One playthrough and there's a tune that gets stuck in your head. The appeal of "Parklife" is that it's an album that gets stronger and stronger the more you hear it. Oasis would hit the scene that same year. But "Parklife" was where the band really found its mojo, and the timing couldn't have been any better. " Leisure " was good but lacked the punch needed to make it super duper great, while " Modern Life Is Rubbish " was let down by several tunes that sounded too similar to one another. Released in 1994 it marked a strong upturn in both the popularity of the London band and the quality of the songs they produced. "Parklife" was the third studio album from Blur. |
